SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A fifth medical marijuana dispensary has opened its doors in Sioux Falls, with Roy’zzz Premium Cannabis joining Genesis Farms, CannaCare, Flower Shop and East River Farms within the city limits.
Located at 2520 S. Louise Ave, the business occupies the space which was previously home to Puerto Vallarta.
The owner of Roy’zzz is Roy Nielsen III. He took a roundabout road to the cannabis industry.
“A few years ago I was in the pet industry. I sold that company — I’m somebody that has to have something to do,” Nielsen said. “I’ve been a longtime consumer of cannabis and I was looking at the space and the opportunity in South Dakota when it presented itself.”
“I jokingly tell people I went from pets to pot,” Nielsen chuckled.
A medical dispensary, Roy’zzz does have a bit of a different look to what you might expect if you’ve been inside a number of the facilities in South Dakota. Rather than the clean, white, borderline pharmaceutical feel that some have opted for, Roy’zzz makes an effort to inject color.
