COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Medical marijuana dispensaries in Ohio are about a month away from applying for a dual-use license, which would allow them to sell adult-use cannabis while continuing to serve medical patients.
“We are already prepared as far as the process is for sales,” Senior Regional Marketing Manager at Sunnyside, Kierston Powell said. “It’s really more ramping up production of product.”
Sunnyside has five medical marijuana dispensaries in Ohio. Powell said the company intends to apply for a dual-license for all its locations.

According to the Division of Cannabis Control’s current draft rule, the goal of issuing applications to current medical marijuana licensees is by June 7, as required by the initiated statute approved by voters. The Division is looking to begin awarding provisional licenses for non-medical cannabis facilities by Sept. 7.
Powell says that, while it’s difficult to anticipate an exact percentage of increased customers and sales, the company is expecting there to be a lot of new interest.
Current medical patients told ABC 6 they are worried about the likely influx in customers at Ohio dispensaries.
