UPDATE @ 3:37 p.m. (Feb. 9):
Monroe dispatchers received a call at around 2 p.m. Thursday to say the U.S. Bank at Main Street and Ohio Avenue was being robbed.
The suspect, who at this time is only being described as a male, left with an undisclosed amount of cash through the bank’s parking lot. Investigators believe a vehicle was waiting to aid in his escape, said Monroe police Chief Robert Buchanan.
The chief said residents on Ohio Avenue where questioned, but no one saw anything suspicious.
Monroe Elementary School, which is about 2 miles from the scene of the robbery was placed on lock down for a short period of time. The school has since lifted the lock down order.
Buchanan said it’s unknown as this time if a weapon was displayed or shown, but no one was injured and no shots were fired.
It’s unknown of the bank will remain closed for the remainder of the day, or if they’ll re-open, Buchanan said.
UPDATE @ 3:03 p.m. (Feb. 9):Main Street has now re-opened but U.S. Bank remains closed. Investigators on scene are canvassing the area.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Butler County Sheriff’s deputies are at the scene of the bank robbery.
Main Street is blocked in both directions by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Butler County Sheriff’s deputies.
