COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith has pled guilty to drug charges.
Smith pled guilty Wednesday to one count of physical control after drugs were found in his car by deputies last fall.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Smith was stopped on October 20 around 9 p.m. on Riverside Drive at a field sobriety checkpoint.
Authorities said a strong odor of marijuana was detected in his vehicle, and he was sent to a diversion area for further investigation.
The sheriff’s office said Smith refused all field tests after drugs were found in his car.
He was sentenced to serve three days in a substance education program which he completed and a $375 fine along with court costs.
Smith’s attorney said he did have a derivative of marijuana in his system and that he does carry a medical card to take medical marijuana.
