Temporary Processing Technician (40 hours weekly) – Firelands Scientific – Huron, OH

The Temporary Processing Technician should be very technically astute in mechanical, electrical, and computer operated systems utilized in laboratory and manufacturing environments. The Processing Tech is responsible for receiving materials, pre-processing, decarboxylation, post-processing, securely storing materials, maintenance and sanitation of extraction and processing equipment under supervision. The technician assists and/or performs all the tasks necessary to process extracts and produce various formulated products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision and upon training, operates and maintains solvent extraction equipment and non-solvents refinement equipment that extracts and refines oil from a variety of cannabis plant material.
  • Tending to and recording the parameters on all equipment used for separations and submitting to Processing Lead for any applicable optimization of the process.
  • Record all analytical data within each step of the extraction process and input the data on extraction spreadsheet, METRC and/or other regulatory databases.
  • Document throughput of all solvents and consumables needed for the extraction and separation processes.
  • Submit revision requests for SOPs according to new methods to optimize processes to the Processing Lead.
  • Execute day-to-day processing operations as they pertain to workflow, production quotas and deadlines.
  • Operating highly sophisticated extraction equipment; processing concentrates and extracts under supervision and delegation from the Lead.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations; monitoring the work environment
  • Operating, maintaining, adjusting, and performing light repairs to laboratory and manufacturing equipment such as pumps, ovens, balances, centrifuges, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste according to policy, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas clean.
  • Wash, sterilize, and restock laboratory glassware.
  • Perform clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, and filing.
  • Perform other related work as required by Management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biology, physics or environmental sciences.
  • At least two (2) years laboratory experience in commercial-scale extraction or compound-specific laboratory practices in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with supercritical extraction and solvent evaporation desired.
  • Scientific laboratory procedure experience and techniques as used in a chemical laboratory.
  • Experience with scientific laboratory equipment.
  • Health and safety practices and precautions applicable to a chemistry laboratory
  • Experience in proper, safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes.
  • Capabilities with computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories recordkeeping procedures
  • Thorough understanding of state and local medical marijuana laws and how they apply to the operations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective time-management and ability to multi-task
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and requests
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • ability to work nights and weekends
