GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) –Medical marijuana dispensaries were one topic introduced in the first city council for 2018 in Grandview Heights.
A pair of ordinances were introduced by Councilman Steve Reynolds. One would prohibit retail dispensing of medical marijuana in certain zoning districts of Grandview Heights. The other would permit retail dispensing the drug in certain zoning districts of the city.
“It’s all about, again, respecting people on either side of the issue, making sure that we allow alternatives for our current council members to do what they’re comfortable with and, at least as importantly, set the stage if our residents decide they want it to be a referendum issue. If they want it on the ballot. We’re trying to make it as easy and clean as possible for them to do that,” explained Reynolds.
City leaders have already spoken on cultivation and processing, voting in favor of a ban. But, there’s an option for dispensaries. An option Reynolds said he’s open to.
“I think if a doctor, a medical doctor and a patient with a life-altering condition feels that’s the best part of their treatment, their course of treatment, why should we stand in the way of that?”
When it comes to locations for medical marijuana dispensaries, Reynolds said one place includes a portion of Goodale Boulevard away from residential areas. The councilmember explained location was something he kept in mind while writing legislation.
Reynolds explained the pair of ordinances will head to committee meetings. If they pass through, they could head for a vote in February.
