The following people were recently indicted by a Portage County grand jury. Indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt:
Benjamin J. Boyd, 38, of 1430 Hickory St., Atwater. Theft from the elderly (a 2007 John Deere riding lawnmower, a Stihl weed trimmer, a 2014 John Deer snowblower, a 2014 Honda mini-tiller, a 2016 Honda lawnmower, a Craftsman lawnmower, a Delta miter saw, two steel-tipped wooden truck ramps, an air compressor, a tripod with outdoor lights and four 5-gallon gas cans worth a total of more than $7,500 but less than $37,500), a third-degree felony; two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle (a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2001 Suzuki 4-wheeler), both fourth-degree felonies, and breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony.
Amber N. Depew, 26, of 2795 Lovers Lane, Ravenna Township. Two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (Oxycontin and fentanyl) and one count of possession of heroin, all fifth-degree felonies; possession of drug abuse instruments (a hypodermic needle), a second-degree misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia (a plastic straw and spoon), a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Christopher L. Dowdell, 24, of 1187 Rose Court, Kent. Escape, a third-degree felony, violating a protection order, a fifth-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Cory T. Edelen, 24, of 36 Manning Road, Suffield. Improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony, and two counts of OVI, both first-degree misdemeanors.
Christina E. Gaines, 34, of Akron. Possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug abuse instruments (a hypodermic needle), a second-degree misdemeanor.
Victor L. Haywood, 25, of Cleveland. Possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; two counts of OVI and one count of driving under suspension, all first-degree misdemeanors; and possession of drug abuse instruments (a plastic straw used to ingest illegal drugs), a second-degree misdemeanor.
