On the day he was shot and killed, 18-year-old Tyler Kassow received a pound of marijuana in the mail, according to court documents.
Later that night, police confiscated four marijuana plants, a grow light, mail labels and various pipes, grinders and scales. These items, among other things, were part of the small grow operation in Kassow’s basement police and prosecutors believe got him killed.
In the days following his death, police arrested Demarcus Staley, Justin Koch, Jibril Willingham and Rodney Foster. A grand jury indicted all four on murder charges.
Kassow was killed in West Chester Township on Jan. 13.
Alex Kassow, Tyler Kassow’s 26-year-old brother, had parked in his driveway on Cincinnati Columbus Road. When he got out of the car, Staley and Foster approached him, he later told police. Both appeared to be wearing blue surgical gloves.
