The Eastern Cape health department set aside R78 million for security upgrades after several robberies at its public health facilities since the beginning of the year.
According to the department, the latest incident happened on Friday evening at the Zigodlo Clinic in Debenek, in the Amathole region, when a nurse and a security guard were tied up and locked in the dispensary room overnight.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said a security guard heard a noise at about 23:00 and went to investigate.
