The future of marijuana in Ohio remains a hot topic.
While lawmakers in Columbus debate the pros and cons of legalizing the drug for medical use, more and more families said there’s too much talk and too little action.
Those families point to surveys that indicate a majority of Ohio voters support medical marijuana.
Even so, the drug remains controversial.
Nicole Scholten knows this but said it’s important that anyone who’s critical of medical marijuana keep an open mind.
“We should be walking toward the promise of successful medicine where there is none,” Scholten said. “To severely limit the opportunities of this plant, in my opinion, is not correct. The great thing is that lawmakers are taking the time to learn. No matter what you think about cannabis, there is likely something new to learn.”
Scholten said she’s learned a tremendous amount about marijuana because of her 12-year-old daughter, Lucy Scholten, who has severe epilepsy.
“I love my daughter just as she is. She is amazing and strong and inspirational,” Scholten said.
