GALENA, Illinois (KWWL) – Just across the Mississippi River from the Hawkeye State, the city of Galena got its first recreational marijuana dispensary this weekend.
Verilife held a grand opening for the dispensary Saturday, where several city officials attended.
Illinois legalized recreational marijuana use for adults over the age of 21 to start 2020. This includes marijuana bud or flower, THC pills, oils and lotions, edibles and vape pens.
Illinois marijuana sales for the month of September totaled $67,648,362.14.
Iowa has a medical marijuana program that does not include bud or flower, but rather pills, vape pens and tinctures. Marijuana is commonly a balance between THC and CBD; and Iowa law allows for up to 4.5 grams of THC per 90 days.
A new state law took effect on July 1, 2020 that expanded Iowa’s medical marijuana program to people suffering from severe autism, PTSD and other things. However, experts feel Iowa’s laws are still restrictive compared to other states.
