RE: Extension of Patient Registration
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Ohio General Assembly passed, and Governor Mike DeWine has signed, HB 404, which extends the expiration date of patient and caregiver registrations in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (MMCP). If a patient or caregiver’s registration card expires between March 9, 2020 and April 1, 2021, the expiration date has been automatically extended and the card will remain valid until July 1, 2021.
A patient needs both a valid registration (e.g. patient card) and a recommendation to purchase medical marijuana in Ohio. HB 404 only extends the expiration of a patient’s registration; it does not extend the physician’s recommendation. Patients must still have a current recommendation from a physician who is certified to recommend medical marijuana.
Please note, the expiration date on the patient or caregiver registration card will not be updated to reflect this extension. Therefore, any registration card with an expiration date between March 9, 2020 and April 1, 2021 must be accepted as valid through July 1, 2021.
