John Kasich’s South Carolina shuffle: The Ohio governor on Tuesday wrapped up a two-day Michigan swing – which Politico’s Nancy Cook notes was loaded with first-100-days swagger – and promptly took his presidential campaign back to South Carolina.
Kasich was eager to return. He scrapped plans for a Virginia campaign stop to get back earlier. The scheduling change indicates that Kasich and his advisers might see an opportunity in the Palmetto State, which holds its Republican primary Saturday.
Should they be optimistic? The South Carolina polls are all over the place. Tuesday brought a new CNN/ORC poll that showed Kasich in dead last, at 4 percent.
