What turned out to be an emotional hearing Thursday on a potential medical marijuana plan for Ohio caused some people with debilitating health problems to weep on several occasions.
The hearing, the final stop of a three-city tour by a pair of state senators backing the measure, was inside the University of Toledo’s Scott Park Campus auditorium. It lasted three hours and drew about 70 spectators, fewer than the estimated 550 people who attended a Jan. 30 hearing in Cleveland and 200 who attended a Feb. 4 hearing in Cincinnati.
Megan Lawrence, a nurse for Lima Memorial Health System, testified how her 3-year-old son, Casen, is showing promising results from liquid cannabis for the seizures that began when he was 7 months old. The drug is dispensed as part of a clinical trial in Columbus.
