ELYRIA, Ohio — A 19-year-old man killed Tuesday was shot by a man trying to steal a half-pound of marijuana, an Elyria Municipal Court prosecutor said.
Kajaun Anderson shot Cody Snyder in the chest during the altercation over $1,040 worth of marijuana, Prosecutor Michelle Nedwick said during Anderson’s first court appearance Thursday in Elyria Municipal Court.
Anderson made his appearance by video from Lorain County Jail where he’s being held on $1 million bond.
Two teens, 16 and 17, are also charged in the shooting, police said. Lorain County Juvenile Court officials did not have information on when the two will appear in court. They are being held in the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home.
Snyder was shot just after 8:30 p.m. Police were called on a report of shots fired on Clinton Avenue near Lake Avenue. Police have not said where Snyder was shot.
One of the assailants was an acquaintance of Snyder, Elyria police Capt. Christopher Costantino said. He would not elaborate about the nature of their relationship.
A police officer saw a car quickly pull up to the emergency room doors of University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center a short time later, police said.
A man in the car yelled for help and said a man was shot, police said.
The officer ran to the car and found the man unresponsive and covered in blood in the passenger seat, police said.
Emergency room staff took him inside the emergency room where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
